I don’t remember where I heard someone talking about this but it was a discussion about cells and how each cell in our body has functions and a purpose and knows its functions and purpose. Hair cells know they are hair cells and divide into more hair cells. Brain cells grow into more brain cellls and stomach cells create more stomach cells carrying out the purposes they were designed for.
Cancer cells are just like regular cells with one difference; they have forgotten their purpose. They divide and grow quickly with out any specific function, invading the space the useful cells should occupy.
I have often thought about my life and how important it is to be constantly aware of my purposes and functions. Watching for warning signs of when I may be growing like a cancer, forgetting my functions in my family, my community, work and my callings or even forgetting my understanding of the purpose of this life. Do we sometimes grow rapidly towards wasteful ends consuming time and resources that could be used to make gains toward our earthy functions and eternal purposes?
