Fasting for Evie’s Dad

My friend Nicole sent me this message today… “We started this morning with a prayer and a fast for Amos and your family. Frankly we have never sat together and done this as a family. My daughter Lacey 8 year old during sacrament started crying. She was saying I’m so hungry. I told her it was good to try and fast but if she needed to she could eat. With more tears she said then Evie’s dad won’t get better!!! It was the sweetest thing. I talked to her about how Heavenly Father appreciated her effort and it’s really the first time she really fasted and it was up to her if she wanted to eat. I said a silent prayer to comfort her and let her accomplish this task because she was so concerned for Evie’s dad. She made it and fasted. Thank you for being such a good example of faith so I can follow your families example and teach my kiddos! I hope you can have some peace today.”

We are thankful for all the people who fasted for Amos today. I know good will come from it and after today, we are desperate for a little good.

While his white blood cell counts improved today, his billiruben got worse and is back up to 9.4.

The draining procedure for the lungs went well yesterday. I was feeling so good last night as they drained one and a half liters from his chest and his oxygen and heart rate numbers started looking much better.

Sadly, the improvement didn’t last and his lungs filled back up overnight.

Our entire stake fasted for Amos today and it was wonderful to be in my ward and feel the love of our friends.

After church the kids got to come see daddy. He hasn’t been very responsive today and that was hard on all of us.

The Johnstone cousins came out to be with us at church and the hospital and helped at home. It’s so great to have family around.

Dad and Tracy and her kids have taken good care of us today and I got to meet Caitlyn’s baby. She is adorable!!

Bishop Elwood came to see how he was today but couldn’t see him because he was doing a scan. They scanned his gall bladder and we are still waiting for results on that.

Amos’s Gilbert High friends came for a minute and so did my nephew Spencer and my sister Christy.

Our friends the Rawls were fun visitors. We appreciate them so much. They brought Amos a cool Super Man lanyard like the Captain America one Jef is wearing. It even lights up. I think we’ll try it out tomorrow.

Laughs and Reality

Amos wants to be doing well but he isn’t. He normally would have loved a day filled with JesterZ and wrestling friends, but it was so hard for him. If those laughs weren’t so painful there would be more of them. He can barely walk or function at all. Everyone sees it and probably thinks I am in denial, but I do realize how much he has deteriorated. I was with my mom the week she passed away from cancer and the way he is right now is very similar. It breaks my heart to see him like this, but I know he will survive it, no matter how bad it gets. I just  know. I love all of you who “deal in reality” as one person put it today, but everyone knows, I have never done that in my life.

Amos was supposed to go to a Gilbert High wrestler’s reunion today. They get together for pizza and wings to catch up once in a while. He told them he couldn’t make it today so they came all the way to him and brought us all food and shared some good-old-days memories and laughs.

We had more laughs when we went to see Jason Gray at Jesterz Comedy Club tonight. My kids have always been huge Studio C fans and Jason is their favorite. The owner of JesterZ is #TeamAmos all the way, in fact he made up the name #TeamAmos and he’s always shown us so much love and support. He invited us there to be guests tonight for the big show. Thank you Jef Rawls! You are one of the many blessings in our lives.

Jef made a big deal about Evie Clair being there tonight and even had her come on stage to do some improv comedy with Jason Gray! All her dreams have now come true.

Here is the full show tonight. Evie’s part starts at minute 43. Must keep watching after her part for the epic rap battles!

This morning was the last day of my building-cleaning-organizing assignment for 3 months! This means next Saturday I get to sleep in. Thanks to the Gonzalez family, The Petersens, Brother Pearce, The Cluffs and the Maloys, we got done in just an hour. The building will be nice and shiny for church tomorrow.

Phoebe is Awesome

My sister Phoebe drove all the way to my house to make tons of pies and adorable treats with my girls today.  She even made pies for my neighbors Joseph and Victoria who starred in Evelyn’s music video last night. She then went home and spent the rest of her day making pies for her neighbors and family. If that isn’t awesome, she is coming tomorrow to make Thanksgiving dinner for my family after making Thanksgiving for her family. She is probably the most selfless person I know and I am so thankful to have her as my sister. Love you Phoebe. After I heard Amos say “Phoebe is awesome” today, I knew that needed to be the name of the blog. She is a great example to us of someone who lights the world every day of her life. When I grow up I want to be like her.

Another super selfless and kind person we know is Jef Rawls who owns Jesterz. Somehow he is cool enough to get super stars to come to his comedy club. He invited us to be his guests Monday night when Lindsey Sterling comes to do a comedy show with them. I hope she pulls out her violin too. What an incredible experience! We are pumped for Monday. I don’t even think he realizes it will be a perfect birthday present for me. Thank you Jef!

After the baking we went to see the movie Trolls. It was adorable and had great music. I loved that it reinforced the idea that we can be happy even in the most difficult circumstances.

After the movie we went  for hair cuts then to Sutherland! We have wonderful friends in Mesa who invited us to their family neighborhood for pie night. Their family members own the whole neighborhood. How amazing it must be to have all your sisters as neighbors. It was so great to catch up with everyone. Amos got too tired so we couldn’t stay long.

In addition to extreme fatigue, this new chemo leaves a film in his mouth that makes everything taste terrible. Some people who read our blog gave us a tip on some miracle berries that might fix the bad taste problem. We have them to try for Thanksgiving tomorrow. With all the yummy food Phoebe is making, I really hope they work.
