I got a message from Evelyn at school today. She was giving an oral presentation in front of her class. The assignment was to select any person and explain why he or she is your hero. Her tears got the best of her and she couldn’t finish her report. Her teacher came to her rescue and hugged her while whispering in her ear that she had just ruined her “tough teacher” image. She told Evelyn she could try again tomorrow to deliver her report. I came to the school to give her a hug and encourage her. After reading what she wrote, I’m positive I couldn’t have gotten through it either.
My dad isn’t my hero because he has cancer. He is my hero because he goes through this, serves our family and our church and goes to work for 10 hours a day. My dad works as a professional counselor at the prison and serves as bishop or leader of our ward or congregation. He is my hero because he has to see so much everyday but yet he doesn’t lose faith or hope. He is my hero because he talks to me with all his strength. He loves me with all his love. He looks at me like I am his whole world. He is the light of my life and the joy in my heart. He is the reason I get up in the morning. If he can do it with a smile, then so can I. I love my dad and I am forever grateful for him in my life.
The staff from Gilbert High School have been working on another fundraiser for our family. It looks like everything worked out and it is happening on Monday, November 14th. We’d love to see you there. Thank you to Char for being amazing and taking such good care of us. Also a big thanks to the Pollack Tempe Cinemas for donating the theater for us to watch the classic movie Princess Bride together! Evie Clair will be singing before the movie and there will be a silent auction. Please let me know if you’d like to donate a basket.
Seating is limited so reserve tickets early. We will email them to you after your purchase. You can show them on your phone if you’d like. No need to print.
