This morning we woke up really early to make it to a breakfast sponsored by the City of Scottsdale and Arizona Interfaith Movement where the mayor declared Scottsdale a Golden Rule City. The golden rule is such a powerful tool because there is a version of it in every major world religion and it is an idea so basic and inclusive that non religious citizens can also agree to live in harmony with it to better our communities.
Porter was once again asked to talk about the golden rule and give a prayer. I’m not sure why they selected Porter again. Maybe it’s the blonde hair. I think I’m going to start calling him “Golden Boy.”
We sat with the vice mayor and she was so impressed with my kids especially Ruth who gathered her thoughts so well and explained her current roll in student council and the way she wanted to help increase respect, civility, kindness and empathy if she is elected again next year.
“Miss Scottsdale” is not your typical beauty queen but a well-traveled law student who promotes tolerance. She gave the keynote address at the breakfast this morning and it was spot on.
We are all running on little sleep and trying to catch up but Amos says he is feeling OK today. We think his stomach has been adjusting out of chemo and maybe he can find some releif now.
We still don’t have insurance approval for the Y90 radiation treatment yet but Amos may decide to push forward without insurance if it comes to that point.
I just got a call from the girls’ assistant principal. Porter told me one of them was probably in trouble but she was calling to tell me that Ruth had the most “Caught in the Act” tickets for the month and had earned a place on the Wall of Fame next to her sister Kirra and a lunch with the principal. I’m so glad to know that Ruth promotes the golden rule with her actions and not just her words.
