Amos has a Snoopy shirt he wore after church today that says “Nope. Not Today…” with Snoopy lying flat on his back. The funny thing is that even though Amos feels that way most days lately, he gets out of bed and does it anyway.
When we study the scriptures we find that the Lord has a long history of doing miracles big and small for those who align their will with His and are willing to work through difficult times. He led Lehi to the promised land, taught Nephi and the Brother of Jared to build ships, parted the Red Sea for Moses and the children of Israel and continued to bless millions of them with the manna from heaven to sustain them in the wilderness. There are countless examples and I sometimes wonder how things would be different if those prophets had the “Nope. Not Today…” attitude.
Today I had an experience where the blessing came before I even knew we needed them. Sister Ord told me at church she had a bunch of food left over from a senior missionary dinner last night that she was going to bring over. Little did I know that the chicken curry and rice I planned for the 17 people who came for dinner wouldn’t work because we forgot to buy one of the ingredients for the dish.
We ended up with plenty of food for everyone and had a wonderful night. We had the Elders over for dinner and they had the two cutest mini missionaries from Higland High School shadowing them for a few days. We also had my awesome niece, Bailey and her family from Utah and my nephew Emmett.
Amos fulfilled all his responsibilities today, got a nap in and had a wonderful time with the missionaries and our family tonight . It’s remarkable because it’s a miracle. I know that the Lord doesn’t ask us to do anything without giving us a way to accomplish it.
Thanks to Martic Luther King Jr., Amos will get a “Nope. Not Today…” day tomorrow. It will be a no work, catch up on sleep day for him. What a much needed blessing.
