Today marks 3 years since the day my sweetheart passed away. Amos and I always shared a love for the Olympic Games. We were both deeply competitive individuals even with our limited athletic abilities.

While Amos was training to be a wrestler from a young age, I was training year round with an Olympic synchronized swimming team. My dad made it all the way to the Olympic trials in water polo as the goalie who defied gravity.

We wanted to teach our children sportsmanship and start a fun family tradition. When Blakely was one year old, Amos and I began Labor Day Olympics.
Our family looks very different now, but the tradition lives on as we honor Teamamos. Today we have Amos’s sister, Amanda, and her two children Harlie and Brackin competing with us as well as Porter’s girlfriend, Hannah.
It’s been an amazing and full day of competition and fun with some disappointments and some great accomplishments. I think my favorite moment was Ruthie winning frisbee golf. Everyone took joy from such a pure moment of unexpected grace and skill. She ended up with her personal best at 4th place overall.

Amanda’s son, Brackin, was the dark horse of the games, winning several events and coming in at 2nd place overall.

Kirra was the event planner for the day and she did and excellent job all around. So much preparation went in to the day and she was behind it all. She is so talented in organizing and planning events. She also pulled off a surprise win in the dance category with a crowd favorite hip hop dance against Evie and Blakley who both did incredible lyrical dances. Kirra tied with Michael for third overall!

Look at these incredible results! Everyone placed in at least one event and through some difficult losses, everyone was still smiling at the end of the day.
Evelyn – Gold
Brackin – Silver
Michael & Kirra – Bronze
Ruth – Honorable Mention
Our grand champion for today was the one and only Evie Clair with wins in the 50 Meter Freestyle, Long Jump, Gymnastics, Jump Rope and Table Hockey! Congrats Evelyn. You are the 2020 Labor Day Olympics champion! We knew it was a great day when Brackin asked his mom if he can come back every year for Labor Day Olympics. Thanks everyone for the great memories.
